| About Aromatherapy and how it works….
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using the essential oils of plants in treatments. The essential oils are extracted from plants, trees, flowers, fruits and grasses using a variety of methods. Fragrance houses know well the effects of aromas, and researchers are discovering odours that influence our mood, emotions, evoke memories or make us feel attractive to the opposite sex. Essential oils are readily absorbed into the body and aromatherapy treatments use touch (via massage), bathing and inhalation. |

An aspect of essential oils is the effect they have on the brain and the right/left balance of the brain. We know that the left side of the brain is more to do with logical and analytical thinking, the right hand side is associated with intuitive and creative thinking. When both sides are in balance we experience a feeling of balance and calm. Experiments carried out on volunteers, showed that when they inhaled essential oils, the E.E.G. equipment showed the activity of the both sides of the brain came into closer symmetry with one another. The tests went onto show the characteristics of certain essential oils. e.g. Rosemary, which we associate with clarity, showed brain-rhythm patterns of alertness. |
